Alberto L. Ferro

Composer, Pianist.

Classical and Jazz music performer, specialised in improvisation.

Current Creative Director at the London Contemporary School of Piano, Alberto holds a Piano Performance Degree from Milan Conservatory and a Master in Music from Washington State University, U.S.

As a composer Alberto has written and recorded three albums, “Introspections” (2025) “North of the River” (2020) “The Deep End of Sound” (2018), all for piano solo. His music draws lines between genres and techniques: there are clear references to classical forms, polyphony, counterpoint and thematic developments, but also deep dives into modern jazz, contemporary art music and rock/folk. The investigation involves a variety of creative approaches: note-by-note composition, thematic improvisation to un-planned improvisation (mostly live). His compositions reflect this mixture of strategies.

The album “Scarlatti / Chopin”, which features various works by the two classical composers, was released in 2021. Few months after that the single Van Diemen’s Land was released, an original arrangement of the U2 song by the same title, while “Rough Edges: Improvisations” (2023), is a collection of free improvisations for piano solo, inspired by many musical influences: jazz, blues, classical, contemporary.

The Podcast Where is the Musicis an ongoing project that emerges from Alberto’s investigation in the world that’s between music and words: it develops further the topics and themes articulated in his blog (also on Substack).

Alberto is an active and committed piano teacher, specialised in classical music, improvisation and composition: he has held lectures on a variety of musical topics.
